The state of Florida has a Unified Florida Building Code composed of two sections with two product approval systems. The state section, as it is commonly referred to, includes 65 of 67 counties. The High Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ) is geographically defined as Dade and Broward Counties.
As a requirement for site specific permit verification, Florida law requires building envelope components and systems to have either a state or local product approval for demonstrating resistance to wind loads as specified in the current code edition. Approval of any building envelope component or system is a two step process consisting of (1) product approval and (2) site specific design. For additional detailed information on code requirements and compliance, including an important memorandum of explanation from the State of Florida Department of Community Affairs, links are provided below. It is strongly suggested that these documents be consulted.
The Site Tech WindSafe Pavement System has Florida Building Code Product Approval for all counties except for Dade and Broward for design uplift pressures up to -120 psf. For projects in the HVHZ (Dade and Broward Counties), a local product approval for each individual project can be obtained for the Site Tech WindSafe Pavement System from the local Authority Having Jurisdiction. Contact Site Tech for assistance with this local approval for individual projects.
